lThe Googong Masterplan
Googong is a self-contained town located on a picturesque site overlooking the Molonglo Ranges near the Googong Dam on Old Cooma Road in New South Wales. Eventually the town will be comprised of five connected neighbourhoods that will be home to around 18,000 people in 6,500 homes, and will include schools, parks, shops and businesses – everything you'd expect to find in a thriving town. Already almost 7,000 Googonians live here.
Googong residents already enjoy eight playgrounds, three dog parks, six playing fields, two tennis courts, six netball courts, three pump tracks, a skate park and basketball court, The Anglican School Googong (EL-Year 12), Googong Public Primary School, Club Googong (with its indoor pool and swim school), and the Googong North Village Centre shops. The shops include an IGA supermarket, Gorman & Co. pub, liquor store, cafe, hair dresser, beautician, Domino's Pizza, Club Lime gym, GP, vet, dentist, chemist, physio, allied health services, childcare centre and community centre.
Civil works construction began in 2018 on the second neighbourhood, Googong Central. Here you’ll find Googong's Town Centre (the major shopping, entertainment and retail precinct), the Googong Hotel, a proposed public high school, indoor pool and sports centre, tennis centre, fire station, library, community centre, sports and recreation club, playing fields, and more. It’s an exciting new era for Googong, one that will provide employment, schools, entertainment and major shopping opportunities to support our growing town. The major supermarkets and retail precinct of this neighbourhood are expected to open in 2025.
Housing in the township will range from large family homes, to courtyard style homes, as well as terraces and apartments. An aged care facility is also proposed for Googong Central.
Over 23% of Googong is dedicated to open spaces, including Googong Common, which weaves through the centre of the town. And our sustainability initiatives don’t stop there. We’ve built a state-of-the art Integrated Water Cycle system to reduce Googong’s potable water use by around 60% and allows us to recycle over half the town’s water – helping us keep the town greener all year round.
