Googong will generate about $185 million for the retail sector each year.
Shops
From general store to major retail
In the initial stages, a general store and cafe providing day-to-day necessities will be incorporated in the Club Googong clubhouse. This state-of-the-art facility is being designed and built to fit with Googong’s sustainability principles.
The first neighbourhood shopping centre is planned to open a few years after the first residents arrive, and there will eventually be local shopping available in each of the five neighbourhoods. This will range in size from a few local shops to neighbourhood centres about the size of the Ainslie shops in the ACT.
In later years, Googong town centre, which will be about the same size as Manuka shopping centre, will provide major retail and employment facilities. Improved road access to Queanbeyan and to the Monaro Highway will put several of the region’s largest shopping precincts just an easy drive away.
In total, Googong will provide for 47,000m2 of net lettable area, 39,000m2 of which will be available in the town centre.
