We are committed to ensuring that the final plan for Googong delivers a high quality design that respects the ecological and environmental values of the area.

The new township will be designed to enhance the immediate and surrounding regions of Googong, which includes the Googong Dam and Foreshores. Immediately adjacent to the township, the Foreshores are a significant refuge for native plants and animals. The Foreshores are not part of the Googong township and will continued to be maintained by the ACT Parks and Conservation Service for public recreation. If you’re keen on fishing, bushwalking or mountain biking, this is a great natural resource to have on your doorstep.

There will be seven sports fields with provision for cricket, soccer, tennis and netball courts, as well as playgrounds and an adventure playground.

A significant proportion of Googong’s area – over 23% or 185 ha – will be dedicated to open spaces and high quality landscaping will be provided throughout the township. In developing the parklands, we will be revegetating degraded areas with native species. Endangered native grasslands will be protected, along with habitats for other threatened species.

The parklands at Googong will provide spaces for sport and active recreation as well as quiet places for simply enjoying nature.
