Introducing Googong

Road Improvements

Access made easy

Travel between Googong and Canberra or Queanbeyan nowadays is easier and safer than ever before thanks to significant improvements that have already been completed, or are ready to be undertaken, to the main access roads.

Access between Googong and Canberra is via Jerrabomberra on the extended Edwin Land Parkway, which opened in 2012.

In February 2019, $31m worth of road improvements commenced on Old Cooma Road, widening and straightening it with dual carriageways in each direction between Edwin Land Parkway and the entrance to Googong - significantly improving traffic connections to the wider region (for details click here). The road improvements also include a shared off-road cyclist and pedestrian pathway and provisions for on-road cyclists. These roadworks are on track for completion in January 2020.

Additionally, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council are constructing the $86m Ellerton Drive Extension, providing alterative routes to the east and west of Queanbeyan (by-passing the Queanbeyan CBD). These roadworks are on track for completion around mid 2020.

Works are also underway to signalise the first two entrances to Googong, including the new and permanent main entrance at Wellsvale Drive which will open for traffic around mid 2020. The intersection at Old Cooma Road and Googong Drive will be completed late 2019.

Travel currently takes around 25 minutes from Googong to the Canberra CBD.
