Googong township is situated on a 780 hectare site just 16km south-east of Parliament House in Canberra, and less than 6km south-east of Jerrabomberra.
Suprisingly, you don't have to travel far for a town with this much natural beauty right on your doorstep. In fact, Googong is just a 25 minute drive from the centre of Canberra! When you compare that to the drive to Canberra's city centre from Gungahlin (20 minutes) or Tuggeranong (25 minutes),it's clear that Googong's much closer than you thought [Source: Google Maps]
Access to Canberra is via Jerrabomberra on the extended Edwin Land Parkway. The new road linkages, improvements to access along Old Cooma Road and proximity to Canberra and Queanbeyan, mean that Googong is well placed to support future forecast growth for the region. In February 2019, $31m worth of road improvements commenced on Old Cooma Road, widening and straightening it with dual carriageways in each direction between Edwin Land Parkway and the entrance to Googong - significantly improving traffic connections to the wider region (for details click here). These roadworks are on track for completion in January 2020. Additionally, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council are constructing the $86m Ellerton Drive Extension, providing alterative routes to the east and west of Queanbeyan (by-passing the Queanbeyan CBD). These roadworks are on track for completion around mid 2020.
The picturesque site was originally grazing land and is characterised by gently undulating slopes and plains, and dominated by the dramatic mountain backdrop of the Molonglo Ranges.
